Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar @ The Gardens 2

I had a beautiful dinner tonight at Sage Restaurant. Fine dining Japanese-Western Fusion Cuisine. If you think Japanese would not go with Western, think again! To be honest, it was the most satisfying dinner I had since the last time I went to Sage. All you need to make it absolutely perfect is good company and you’re set to go! Trust me, you’ll enjoy it too.

Presenting Chef Daniel who was cooking for us!

P1090409

Complimentary Bread. Yum.

P1090412

Sparkling Mojito (Non Alcoholic)
Sour like ice lemon tea, but it’s sparkling, with a tingling sensation!

P1090426

Tranché of Buri Fish with Akame and Avruga (RM60nett)
I think this dish was made in heaven and served to us. It was so lovely! Every inch of this dish was pure quality. Smell that gorgeous truffle oil. The raw Buri fish was just right, Akame herbs was fragrant, the salt was crystallized and crunchy. The Avruga Caviar was heavenly. And a pinch of wasabi just makes the fish fly. Buri, buri!

P1090439

Capellini Pasta with Shellfish, Tongarashi Spice (RM60nett)
This dish must be created for Malaysians/Asians. It’s slightly spicy and the Capellini Pasta’s texture is a little like mee suah – very smooth. Very Malaysian-inspired, I suppose. The shellfish – prawns and fish – was the best part. Fresh and juicy. YUM!

P1090438

P1090443

Halfway through, we ordered garlic bread just for the heck of it. :D

P1090446

Lime and Lemon Granité
Don’t be fooled by its appearance! It’s not just shaved ice! It’s exquisite, expensive spoonfuls of shaved ice! However, this is the perfect snow white, shaved ice with a citrusy tang,  I like!

P1090448

It was an open kitchen, and we sat exactly where we sat the first time we came – In front of the open kitchen, where we could eye the chefs. Hehe!

P1090453

Pan-fried Hirame with Sea Scallop and Crustacean Oil (RM95nett)
My mum ordered this for the main course and I had a bite of the fish and a scallop. The fish was not bad, but I really prefer a cod fish. The scallop was nice. (:

P1090455

Hirame Fish. Yummy spinach leaves.

P1090460

Almond Crusted Lamb Rack with White Miso and Nasu (RM95nett)
Maybe the chef’s recommendation was better… I had it medium-rare.. He recommended medium-well done. It was too tough for me. ): But the sauteed shitake and himeji mushrooms were gorgeous! Oh, by the way, Nasu is an eggplant. It’s hiding in this picture.. It can be seen underneath the lamb rack in the picture below.

Crépe Suzette with Grand Marnier and Orange Zest (RM30nett)
The Crépe was unexplainable. You would just keep nibbling on it and when it finally finishes, you would long for more. This is a bittersweet Crépe with a dash of Grand Marnier and I kept wanting more! After finishing the crépe, I ‘cleanse’ the rich flavour with the ice cream topped with the orange zest and it made me go ‘Mmmmm…’

Chinese New Year 2010, Part 2

At night, we had western food! Which is ALSO not normal to eat in Penang, for me. We went to Sigi’s Bar and Grill on The Beach at Golden Sands Resort. Currently, it’s only open to in house guests, and the launch is on the 18th of February! This particular restaurant is quite big, it has an outdoor and indoor dining areas. Besides that, they have a cool bar that is lit up with blue lights at night! Actually, the whole restaurant is based on blue colour. The place is a little dark which sort of gives this mysterious and romantic ambiance. On the opposite end of the entrance leads you outside to the beach which you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets and enjoy the sea breeze. Outside the entrance has a trail with herbs and flowers at the sides. Overall, this place is such an adventure.

P1080959

Blue lights, turquoise chairs and tables and lovely ‘lighted paintings’ on the wall.

P1080960

The long ‘river’ in the middle of the restaurants is still due to constructions though.

P1080961

The actual place is much darker.. I brighten it up so you could see whats there.

P1090003

The outdoor dining area. So spacious!

P1080932

Eastern Sunrise Mocktail
Fresh Guava, Pineapple, Lime, Banana, Mango and Grenadine Syrup
My favourite. It’s slightly sour because of the grenadine. But surprisingly, I didn’t taste any pineapple and banana..

P1080935

Caesar Salad (RM28)
Crispy Romaine Lettuce, toasted croutons, beef bacon, anchovies, shaved parmesan, and soft poached egg with caesar dressing.
Lovely poached egg, oooh! The parmesan that melts in your mouth and beef bacons. Am I making you drool?

P1080936

P1080945

Salt and Pepper Calamari (RM21)
Red Chilli, Coriander, Onion Jam and Nahm jim

P1080950

Seared Scallops (RM30)
Scallops with green olive tapenade, chive creme, and potato galette
The. Scallops. Are. So. Fresh. And. So. Juicy.. I only had half.. and I want more! It’s just so lovely!

P1080954

Prawns (RM28)
Marinated in Morrocan Spices, dipping sauce
Eat it without shelling the prawns! It taste so beautiful.. If you shell them, you don’t get to taste the spices anymore. Trust me on this!

P1080957

P1080962

Pan-fried Cod (RM65)
With crushed new potatoes, pistachio aioli, and fennel and caper salad
I always loved cod fish.. Juicy fresh cod fish.. Yum. :D

P1080963

P1080966

Braised Oxtail Fettuccine, Parmesan, Broccoli and Basil (RM34 for individual, RM112 for family)
For me, I’d preffer my spaghetti softer.. The oxtail is full of fats. Eek! Not my kind of meal.

P1080989

Beef Sirloin (RM70)
Char-grilled Australian black angus sirloin steak with hand-cut chips. cafe de paris butter and salad
Don’t order a well done steak.. Order medium or rare. It really makes a difference. Juicer and more tender. Every mouth made me want another piece. It’s that good. RM70 worth of paradise.

P1080977

P1080981

Fried Dried Flat Rice Noodle (RM31)
They have a few local items as well like this one! Of course, they are fine dining local food! :D

P1080982

P1080984

Fungi (RM27 for 12″)
Mushrooms, anchovies, olives, and dried oregano
Mushrooms are nice. :D Do you like mushrooms? I love mushrooms.. This pizza is just awesome!

P1080985

P1080987

Souvlaki (RM29 for 12″)
Shredded lamb, onion, sweet chilli sauce, tomato tabouleh and garlic sauce
The weird part is that they added chilli sauce to make it a little Arabian-ish. Not working for me.. It reminds me of the Ramli burgers..

P1080988

P1090009

P1090018

The Bombe (RM23)
Mango sorbet, white chocolate parfait, Italian meringue, and pine nuts
It seemed to be a weird combination, but a good one.

P1090023

Chocolate Tarte (RM25)
Like chewing gum tart! Okay, not literally, but its quite chewy, but not too much that makes you tired of eating it. To balance it off, they added a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

P1090021

Meet the chef himself, John Brock.

P1090013

Family time! :D My Aunt, Uncle and mum.

P1090035

Say hello to baby Neville! He’s about 8 months old now.

Saturday

Usually we would visit and pray to my grandpa in the morning before lunch.. This time we went in the afternoon.

P1090036

The sun rays here are so.. SO bright!

P1090038

Night falls and we had our reunion dinner. We had steamboat as usual! No pictures, I wanted to enjoy the food…. :D But I did take pretty pictures of the fireworks we played. We also accidentally lit up an unknown firework and we didn’t stand far away enough nor did we covered our ears.. The cylinder-shaped firework bombed with such a loud sound, our ears were still ringing 2 hours later. ):

Prosperity Chinese Dinner @ Impiana Hotel

P1080202

I had 6 main courses with a selection of buffet appetizer and dessert that costs only RM128++ (minimum 3 persons) at Impiana Hotel’s coffee house, Tonka Bean Café. I’ve never seen such a huge coffee house, high ceiling with lovely decorations. Although it was quite warm, I loved the ambiance. Overall, I like this hotel very much. I went there with my mum and my brother.. There were 2 other unfriendly Star reporters with us. Gosh, I cannot stand them..

Signature Yee Sang with Smoked Tuna with BB Abalone and Avacado (RM98++ for 5 persons and RM168++ for 10 persons)
I love yee sang! But the best one is the one we have back in my grandma’s house in Penang. Extra salmon.. Extra everything. :D As for this one, it’s really quite nice, but I wouldn’t pay for such tiny abalones. I’d rather get big ones but lesser.. The avacado is a little hard, I almost mistaken them for young mango.  My mum liked the smoked tuna. I didn’t really get a good piece, only a tiny half piece. ): But it was quite lovely, despite how small it was. It’s slightly salty and sweet. Not their fault that I got a small piece, probably it broke into two while we were mixing the yee sang.

P1080093

Oh, oh ! Remember to pay extra attention to the plate! The decoration on the plate may look like its from the plate but its real! You CAN eat them!

P1080110

Shark Fin and Crab Meat Soup with BB Abalone and Fatt Choy
The soup is really nice but excess crab meat! The crab meat overpowered the shark fin.. Oh by the way.. I am officially allergic to crab meat! ): My throat feels hot and itchy..

P1080116

Steamed Cod Fillet with King Soy Sauce
A simple dish which is just so gorgeous. You can really taste the freshness of the cod fish. I wouldn’t like it if it’s made into curry, or with heavy gravy. Soy sauce is just nice to give a little taste to the fish.

P1080140

Stir Fried Sea Tiger Prawns with Chinese BBQ Sauce
Fresh sea tiger prawns.. Checked. Good sauce.. Checked.

P1080154

Wok Fried Black Pepper Wagyu Beef with Capsicum and Onion
First piece got me thinking.. I thought its usually the thick blackpepper sauce..? This tastes weird.. *takes another piece* Hey, its sweet and sour AND blackpepper-ish.. Which is actually nice, but quite unusual, don’t you think? They’ve added vinegar, soy sauce, LP sauce, ketchup, blackpepper and worchestire sauce

P1080148

P1080153

P1080156

Clay Pot of Dried Oyster, Fatt Choy, Mushroom and Broccoli
Not my kind of dish. This is getting SO boring. Not only Impiana Hotel, mind me, I’m not offending. I’m just quite sick of this dish.. It’s not exciting.

P1080164

Cantonese Noodle with Grass Prawns, Ginger and Spring Onion
I love the noodle but I was already to full to consume anything else.

P1080172

P1080121

Pretty marshmallows..

P1080123

They have a chocolate fountain.. Which different things to dip with.

P1080126

Tiramisu. It’s actually not bad! If you scrap the cream off.. :D

After lunch, we went to One Utama and walked around.. There were so many cheong sams and decorations on sale. The whole place is so red! At about 4.30pm, we picked up our Chinese New Year Treasure Pot from Dragon-I. RM388++!! For at least.. 5-6 persons, it’s actually quite worth it.. They have prawns, abalones, scallops, money bag, roast duck, chicken and vegetables.. :D
