Fresh mango & smoked duck breast in mango sauce
This definitely opens up my appetite! Go try it! It’s definitely worth it. Delicious duck breast meat accompanied with refreshing slightly young mango.

Crispy Fried Tofu with Salt & Pepper
This is very addictive. Especially with the chili sauce dip. *Licks lips*

Special long boiled soup of the day

Stir-fried Pork Neck Meat in XO Sauce

White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake (Single egg yolk) (RM112, 185g x 4pcs)
The mini version is low sugar. (RM138, 90g x 6pcs)
I find their lotus seed paste much smoother than the others. That’s because they use only the finest white lotus seeds from Hunan, China to make their mooncakes! Apparently, these white lotus seeds are very rare to find, and they used to be served only to the King.

Mei-Xin Premium Egg Custard Mooncake (RM88, 60g x 6 pcs)
This one is just heavenly. It smells so, so good. When I took a slice of it, I just wanted more and more. Although it may be a lil’ jelak after a while, it’s just too good not to have another piece. Besides, they made it small enough, you can just pop the whole thing in your mouth if you want!

Assorted Snow Skin Mooncakes (RM24 per flavour, 60g x 2pcs)
I love the Pomelo Dessert one, it has passion fruit and pomelo in it. Very refreshing and sweet!
The Devil Dark Chocolate Crunch one is just as good! It’s not too sweet (Dark chocolate, duh!) and it has bits of crispy rice (Like Rice Krispies cereal).

Here’s the price list to make things easier for everyone. (: (UPDATE: Karen posted a better quality picture here!)
Just click on it to enlarge it so you don’t have to squint your eyes.. 😀
Available for purchase at Private Kitchen, AEON and Jaya Grocer.

Mei-Xin Mooncakes are famous in Hong Kong! Check out this video featuring their ambassador, Kelly Chen.

8 Types of Malaysian Taxi Drivers I’ve Encountered

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Author

I can’t believe I’ve never blogged about my pleasant and not-so-pleasant taxi experiences. I started taking cabs quite regularly when I started my Diploma in Mass Communication in IACT College 2 years ago. Usually when my mum can’t fetch me, or nobody to carpool with, I’d take the cab. And boy, the many experiences I had..

My FIRST DAY of college, I had half an hour to reach Jaya One from TTDI, and I got a cab within minutes upon reaching the bus stop. The guy said ‘OK.” when I mentioned Jaya One. I thought it was all cool till we reached the highway.

Taximan: Jaya 33 right?
Me: No, Jaya One.
Taximan: Ohhh, I don’t know the way lah.
Me: *panics* I also don’t know!!
Taximan: Nevermind, I ask for directions.

I panicked so hard. It was only my 2nd time going to Jaya One, so I don’t know the way there yet and my phone didn’t have data to access GPS. This ‘amazing’ taximan took me for a joyride behind Jaya One, circling around Section 13 and 14. When the meter reached RM20, he finally decided to use the right way to send me to Jaya One. The part I hated most about this panicking joyride was when he stopped by at some dodgy street, asking directions from a weird house, taking 10 minutes to chit chat/smoke. I mean, why not ask shopkeepers..? I panicked too hard to know what to do back then, two years ago. When I reached Jaya One, I was 15 minutes late for class, and I had to pay RM26 for the 40 minute joyride. Whoo-pee-do! He didn’t even offer to let me pay less, for making me late! That was my first and last time I ever got conned by a taxi man. Gosh, karma will hit him so hard, he wouldn’t see it coming!

Here’s the types of taxi men I’ve encountered (Thankfully, and touch wood, no rapist or perverted ones)

1. Think-Too-Hard Driver

I hate them. Most of the taxi drivers have this syndrome, I mean trait. They need their moment of silence before you can come in. I hate it especially when it is day time. It’s blazing hot you know! I especially dislike the ones who reject you after their 2 whole minutes of thinking. It’s not a algebraic question, why do they need to think so hard for?

2. Newbie Driver/Unfamiliar Driver

These are the ones who will say things like these:

“Err, can show me the way?”
“I don’t know where is that.”
“Errrrr….. Uhhhhhhh…. Okay lah. But you show me the way, can?”
“I’m not familiar with X area, you show me the way, can?”

3. Flat Priced Driver

Either their meters are spoiled or they just go by flat rate. You can find these mostly at taxi stands at shopping malls (Especially One Utama New Wing).

“Uhh, Taman Tun ah? OK. RM10”

Goodness, it only takes RM6 to reach home from One Utama, You want to charge me extra RM4? DREAM ON. I end up standing by the road side to get a cab instead because of these cheating flat priced drivers.

As for the “meter-spoiled” reason, I am thankful for those who gives me a decent flat price. (Eg: RM25 from Subang Jaya to One Utama, inclusive of jam and toll)

4. Mr. Formspring

“You live here ah?”
“Study here ah?”
“Are you a foreigner?”
“Local ah you?”
“Going shopping lehhhh?”
“Where you live? Still studying? How old are you? What you doing here? Meeting boyfriend ah?”

I don’t know what to think of them. I’m alright with some of them. I’m really annoyed at the ones who asks me really private questions.

5. Mr. Chatterbox

They talk about their ancestors till their great grandchildren or politics, about how I dress, how typical drivers are. Sometimes it’s fun to listen. Some of them would only talk a lot when they made a wrong turn (Regardless on purpose or not) and try to cheer the customer up.

6. False-Hopes-Driver

You see a taxi from afar… You don’t see anyone in it, so you put up you hand to stop the taxi… BUT NO. HE DRIVES FASTER, GOING PASS YOU, giving that “HAH! NO CAB FOR YOU,  SUCKER” feel to you. Regardless of whether they’re picking up someone or they simply don’t want you, it’s very heart breaking to see a non-hired taxi drive past you. ):

7. Race Car Driver

Last but not least, the scariest but the fastest taxis ever. I had one encounter of this taxi man who really made me grab chair seat tightly, not moving a single bit. It was about 6pm, Sprint highway was jammed. He drove so fast, and braked so hard. THEN, there was an ambulance behind, after he let the ambulance overtake him, he drove so fast behind ambulance (Who wouldn’t?).

8. The Hotelier

Dayum, the taxi will look like any other taxis from the outside but when you step in, it’s like a whole different world! Okay, maybe not a different world, but it has curtains, nice smell, good cushions for extra support, the front passenger seat is pushed in front so you have more leg space.. Best taxi ever. I always loved that taxi that waits at Tropicana City Mall. Damn, his taxi is the best and most comfortable one ever!

What other types of taxi men have you guys seen?

Anyway, this video suits the blog post nicely although it’s more towards Singaporean taxi men. Kudos to Djehuty, Elliot and Foxy.

Most of us always make new resolutions to keep fit, go to the gym often and eat healthier food . But how often do we keep that resolution and continuously eat healthy food ? I’m pretty sure you have your regular places for organic food and such .. But how about trying a new place ? Try The Salad Bar. Worth your time, trust me , especially when you’re into greens . ^^ I love my veggie and I definitely love salads . Yums

Spicy teriyaki chicken salad with spicy vinegar dressing (Large : RM11.90 , Half Portion : RM6.90)
My favourite salad here, I like the sauce and how spicy it is . Besides, it’s lean meat, makes me feel better of myself . Healthy living . 😛

Pumpkin Soup with croquettes
*Slurp . I seem to be eating more pumpkins lately .. Anyway, this bowl of pumpkin soup is super good . It feels like slurping spoonfuls of blended pumpkins . Haha . Try it out !

High Energy Superman salad with wheatflakes (RM11.90 for full portion)
This is the full size . Half size is like 3 quarters of this . Really , both portions are uber huge .. Be careful when you’re choosing the size for your salads .

 Club Sandwich (RM7.90)

Amazing how such a simple thing can taste so good . Mum and I make this all the time .. But this is different compared to what we usually make . Yummy .

Dory Carbonara (RM7.90)
Nothing big to shout about, but it’s good stuff .

Spicy Chicken (RM7.90)
But this one is different. Looks like mee goreng kan? But it doesn’t taste like that ! *licks lips*
Spicy spooketi (Trying to be lame here, as Halloween is coming), aromatic basil flavour with slices of chicken meat. I’d definitely order this everytime I visit The Salad Bar.

Homemade Yogurt with honey + 1 topping (RM4.50)
THE YOGURT IS SO GOOD . You can tell the difference , really . If you can’t, go buy the cup yogurt from the supermarket, and buy this .

Mm . My favourite Jap restaurant in PJ . I loved this place ever since I was a little girl . Really :3
It’s so homely, so comfortable . It’s such a neighbourhood Japanese restaurant. I love it .

7 types of mushrooms in a single dish ! How awesome is that?! Sadly for you , it’s one of the daily specials, so wear your lucky undies , maybe you’d be lucky enough to be able to order these lovely mushrooms .

Another of the daily specials. The soup is fabulous . A must try !!! That’s if … You’re lucky . (;

Sanma Shioyaki (RM16.50)
Mummy introduced this fish to us very long ago .. Then prices hiked up . So we stopped having it at home . I’m so glad to be able to have it again ! It’s super duper sweet . It’s so explainable , it’s just different . I promise you, you’d like it very much if you’re a fish person . 😛

Squid squid squid . Hot stuff . Something nice for tea time while you chat away with your friends. (Daily Specials too)

Hokano Roll (RM30)
There’s 101 things inside the Hokano Roll .. … … Just kidding, who am I fooling ? The photo is just up there ..
BUT! It does have prawn tempura , crabstick inside and eel, avocado and tabiko on the outside . That’s almost 101 to me for a Sushi Roll . It’s super duper yummy, do try it out !
Or you could opt for the Spider Roll (RM16.50) ,  Kano Roll (RM21), Philadelphia Roll (RM12.95)  . They’re my top favourites . Even the Spicy Salmon Roll (RM8) , it’s just so fresh, so delicious!
Kano roll has cream cheese and eel inside, whereas philadelphia roll has smoked salmon and cream cheese

Sashimi Moriawase (RM54.90)
Superb . They’re fresh , and just simply delicious . My favourite one is the butter fish . Yummy .

Tenzaru Inaniwa Udon (Cold) (RM17.50)
I normally order the Zaru/Ocha soba cause it’s yummy, filling and cheap . This is the first time I’m trying their Tempura cold udon .. The udon is awesome ! But I still prefer the zaru/ocha style .

I’ve been busy all week with assignments (and as well as gaming too much) , hence the ultra late posts . I’ll promise to update asap ! (:
